Privacy For Survey Creators

At a glance:

  1. Your survey data is owned by you. And we respect the privacy of your surveys. We don’t sell them to anyone and we don’t use the survey responses you collect for purposes unrelated to you or our services, except in a limited set of circumstances (e.g. if we are compelled by a subpoena, or if you’ve given us permission to do so).
  2. We hold your data securely. See our Security Statement for more information.
  3. Survey data is stored on servers located in the United States. SurveySaurus will process your survey data on your behalf and under your instructions (including the ones agreed to in this privacy policy).

What information does SurveySaurus collect?

When you use SurveySaurus, we collect information relating to you and your use of our services from a variety of sources. These are listed below. The sections afterward describe what we do with this information.

Information we collect directly from you:

  1. Registration information. You need a SurveySaurus account before you can create surveys on SurveySaurus. When you register for an account, we collect your username, password and email address.
  2. Survey data. We store your survey data (questions and responses) for you.

Information we collect about you indirectly or passively when you interact with us:

  1. Usage data. We collect usage data about you whenever you interact with our services. Like most websites today, our web servers keep log files that record data each time a device accesses those servers. The log files contain data about the nature of each access, including originating IP addresses, operating system versions, and timestamps.
  2. Device data. We collect data from the device and application you use to access our services, such as your IP address, operating system version, device type, system and performance information, and browser type. We may also infer your geographic location based on your IP address.

How does SurveySaurus use the information we collect?

  1. To provide you with our service and customer support, which requires us to access your information to assist you (such as with survey design and creation or technical troubleshooting).
  2. To respond to legal requests and prevent harm. If we receive a subpoena or other legal request, we may need to inspect the data we hold to determine how to respond.

With whom do we share or disclose your information?

What are your rights to your information?

  1. Download/backup your survey data. Depending on what subscription plan you have, we provide you with the ability to export, share and publish your survey data in a variety of formats. This allows you to create your own backups or conduct offline data analysis.

Security, cookies and other important information

  1. Security: Details about SurveySaurus’s security practices are available in our Security Statement. We are committed to handling your personal information and data with integrity and care. However, regardless of the security protections and precautions we undertake, there is always a risk that your personal data may be viewed and used by unauthorized third parties as a result of collecting and transmitting your data through the internet.
  2. Data locations: Our servers are based in the United States, so your personal information will be hosted and processed by us in the United States.
  3. Cookies: We use cookies and similar technologies on our websites. Cookies are small bits of data we store on the device you use to access our services so we can recognize repeat users. Each cookie expires after a certain period of time, depending on what we use it for. We use cookies and similar technologies for several reasons:
    1. For security reasons. We use cookies to authenticate your identity, such as confirming whether you are currently logged into SurveySaurus.
    2. To provide you with personalized content.
    3. To improve our services. We use cookies to measure your usage of our websites and track referral data. This information helps us to develop and improve our services and optimize the content we display to users.

Privacy For Survey Respondents

  1. Surveys are administered by survey creators. SurveySaurus is not responsible for the content of surveys or your responses to them.
  2. We don’t sell your responses to third parties. SurveySaurus doesn’t sell or share your survey responses with third party advertisers or marketers (although the survey creator might, so check with them). SurveySaurus merely acts as a custodian on behalf of the survey creator who controls your data, except as further described in this privacy policy with regard to public surveys.

User Security

  1. Authentication: User data on our database is logically segregated by account-based access rules. User accounts have unique usernames and passwords that must be entered each time a user logs on. SurveySaurus issues a session cookie only to record encrypted authentication information for the duration of a specific session. The session cookie does not include the password of the user.
    1. Data Encryption: Certain sensitive user data, such as account passwords, are stored in encrypted format.
    2. Data Portability: SurveySaurus enables you to export your data from our system in a variety of formats so that you can back it up, or use it with other applications.
    3. Data Residency: All SurveySaurus data is stored in AWS servers, located in the US.

Network Security

  1. Firewalls: Firewalls restrict access to all ports except 80 (http) and 443 (https).
  2. Access control: role-based access is enforced for systems management by authorized engineering staff.
  3. Encryption in Transit: data transferred through network is encrypted.

Organizational & Administrative Security

  1. Information Security Policies: We maintain internal information security policies, including incident response plans, and regularly review and update them.
  2. Employee Screening: We perform background screening on all employees, to the extent possible within local laws.
  3. Training: We provide security and technology use training for employees.

Handling of Security Breaches

Despite best efforts and standard security precautions, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. However, if the SurveySaurus team learns of a security breach, we will notify the affected users so that they can take appropriate protective steps. Our breach notification procedures are consistent with our obligations under various state and federal laws and regulation, as well as any industry rules or standards that we adhere to. Notification procedures include providing email notices or posting a notice on our website if a breach occurs.

Your Responsibilities

Keeping your data secure also depends on you ensuring that you maintain the security of your account by using sufficiently complicated passwords and storing them safely. You should also ensure that you have sufficient security on your own systems, to keep any survey data you download to your own computer away from prying eyes.
